Need some advice about a work situation that I am facing?

I had a job interview tuesday of this week. They told me that I would probably hear from them the beginning of next week. As of monday of next week, my boss is on vacation and she will be gone for two weeks. If I take this new job how can I let my boss know that I have taken this new job and also about giving them two weeks notice.Need some advice about a work situation that I am facing?
I would call the place where you had the interview and reconfirm your interest in the job and see how they react. If it goes great, ask them if about the next step in the interview process. You may find out that a second interview is required with a higher up boss, or that you need to take a drug test/physical/followup paperwork, all of which will take some time. Or, you may find out they want to hire you, and in that case, you can give notice on Friday.

If that doesn't seem practical, then either notify HR in your boss' absence, or delay the start date of your new job for three weeks. Explain to the new place that your current boss is out of the office and you want to do the responsible, professional thing of giving them notice to complete any projects you now have going. They will understand.

Good luck!Need some advice about a work situation that I am facing?
If your boss is gone, you would give your notice to whoever is responsible in her absence, the owner, or HR. As well, recognize that 2 weeks notice is a professional courtesy - and the right thing to do - but that it's not a requirement. You should be prepared that when you do give your notice, your company may ask you to leave, and possibly at that moment.

If you end up giving notice to someone other than your boss, recognizing to whomever you speak with, that it may be a difficult transition for them given the circumstances will make you come off as the professional.
Unfortunately, you are in a tough situation (especially if you have a great working relationship with your boss). Illinois is an 'at will' state, so you don't want to let her know you've been looking for something else ahead of time (unless she is a friend and trustworthy with that info). Sometimes, revealing that you are job hunting tends to backfire on you and most employers don't like to know that. If your boss will be on vacation for 2 weeks, there is little you can do to let her know you got another job. You have an HR department I am certain, since your boss is out, they are the ones you will give your written letter of resignation to in her place. Good Luck!
Is there someone else you can turn your resignation in to? Like the next higher up?
