What is your advice for becoming good with math and enjoying doing math?

I love science and have dreamed of working in this field but have always hated working with numbers. This has always held me back. Does anyone know of some way I can deal with this problem? What is your advice for becoming good with math and enjoying doing math?
I think a good idea to get yourself enjoying the subject is to understand some theory and history of mathematics. Charles Seife wrote a (couple of) small, very compelling books on different topics in math. I read all his books (i think) and i'll tell you, they are not tough. Its written for the layman and its easy to find a new appreciation for the subject.

If i can suggest one of his writings its Zero a history- which goes into the history of the number zero- why the greeks banned it, how the indians and arabs developed it, it's implications for calculus and so forth.

p.s. its only like 220 pages, so if your a big reader it should take no time to complete- if not, a chapter a week will do the trick quickly enough.

g'luckWhat is your advice for becoming good with math and enjoying doing math?
hey you can make easier at calculations if you're bored at calculations

see if you have to multiply somthing with 5 then just multiply it with 10 and then divide it with 2 that's all

for e.g 26*5

= 26 *10/2

cancel 26 with 2 = 13

then multiply 13*10

which gives 130

that's all

next if you have problem multiplying large no.s

for e.g to multiply 46 and 45 you could follow this 46*45

=( 45+1)*45

=%26gt;2025=45

= 2070

you see it's very easy

one imp. thing you need to remeber squares and tables

they are like the back bone of mathematics
First, nobody teaches math. you learn it. Whoever teaches is the one who you should ask questions about the things that are vague in your mind. Second, practice and imagination. You might think of a simple structure and focus on it for hours. one of the most important part of math is not being controversial. Just solve problems.

Good luck
The reason why most people are not good at math or hate the subject is because they don't know the basics - that used to be my problem too but then i got a math tutor and now look i even have a TC badge in the math category :)
I hate working with numbers too. In grade school Math was by far my worst subject. Then I took Geometry and discovered that there is more to math than numbers . From then on I loved it and went on to get a degree in Math.
The reason why people do not like math is because they do not understand it.

If you take some classes and learn some math, you will grow found of each other.
