Anyone have advice on flying with a baby who is on formula?

I am taking a one hour flight this weekend with my baby, roundtrip, and we will have lots of luggage as well as a preschooler. What is a good way to bring formula(powdered) and bottles for the trip? I don't want to bring a million bottles and the whole can of formula in other words.Anyone have advice on flying with a baby who is on formula?
I travel often with my baby so I have it down to a science. Even though its only a 1 hour flight you have to plan for delays. In the beginning I would just put 8 ounces of powder in a couple of bottles and then just fill them as needed. Now I just take a bunch of the 4 ounce powder sticks (they are the best!!!) and take 2 empty bottles in the diaper bag. The first thing I do is buy a bottled water as soon as I get through the gate in case she needs it before we get on the plane and I always ask for a bottle that hasn't been refrigerated. When you are on the plane, the flight attendants are always happy to bring you a bottled water for the baby bottle. If you have a couple of ounces in a bottle before you go through the gate, all you do is show it to them and they are so nice and understanding about it but I usually dont have more than 2 or 3 ounces by that time.

Have a wonderful time and good luck!!

Notice below that ';cupid'; said she didnt go on her trip because it was a ';hassle';. Sounds like she doesn't have true experience. I have had my baby on a couple of 4 hour flights and it was a breeze. Dont let that discourage you because people travel with babies every day. Enjoy!!!Anyone have advice on flying with a baby who is on formula?
You can always get the packages of formula. They come in packets and you just add water and shake. It's really easy. That is how I always traveled.
they won't let you take ready made milk in tetra packs on the plane unless you open them. take a sandwich tub and fill it with powder. that's what i used to do when i went to germany for a weekend.

do you still sterilise the bottles? if yes, then you should see if you can find the bags for the microwave. then you'd only have to take 2-3.

hope this helps. have a nice trip
Why don't you get a few cartons of ready made formula? You can get it in any chemist that sells powdered formula!
Contrary to what cupid sad you can take more than the amount in powder as long as it is for the baby. We flew with our son at 1 1/2 months and took a formula dispenser with us with formula in it they let us through all the gates and we had about 3 layovers each way. This one is what we used and it works great .

You can't take over 3 oz. of liquid or 3 oz. of powder substance on an airplane.. check out the guidelines on http://www.tsa.com

A one hour flight.. that is easy, you can feed your baby before you depart.. and then feed your baby again after you arrive.. but any flight longer is next to impossible unless you breastfeed. Even as a breastfeeding Mom.. we looked into visiting my husband's parents.. a 4 hour flight.. and decided against it because of all the hassles. Formula feeding is worse when trying to coordinate air travel.

Just ';telling them'; you are bringing pre-made formula won't do anything.. rules are rules and any terrorist could get away with that, too, so they won't really care who you are. Good Luck.
In addition to what everyone else has said, the other problem that you will have is the distilled water to make the formula due to the no liquid policy. They are supposed to make exceptions for baby formula, but they will ask you to make all the bottles. When you explain that they will spoil within an hour, they will tell you to buy the water on the other side of security. Then, you have to explain that this is distilled water, not usual bottled water so it's doubtful you will be able to buy it.

I smiled big, was polite, offered to give some to my baby to show it wasn't poisonous, and spent about 15 minutes with a security officer before the security head allowed me through.
I would have a small soft thermal bag. It will hold 2 or more bottles so you don't have to get different water. My babies didn't do well with the change in water. Put the formula measure out in a baggie ready to pour in. Remember a fed baby will be happier. Also if you feed the baby on the flight she will will be more comfortable. Some babies don't fly well becuase of the pressure on the ears. So keep a bottle handy and the sucking will help with the pressure. Have fun.

Also read this link below to find more tips!
Buy pre-made formula or you can buy the individually portioned packets and bring a bottle of water. I would also suggest bringing a bottle with disposable liners so that you can throw them away as there is not usually a good place to clean a bottle. Good luck and have a nice trip.
you have to tell the airline that you are flying with that you are bringing up pre-made formula bottles and i would probly just buy formula for your baby once you get to your destination instead of packing a big can. maybe take a small amount with you incase you cant get to a walmart right away.
