I really came out of my shell through high school/uni when I was doing customer service roles and having to speak with random people day in day out.
It's not an easy, but honestly, practice makes perfect. Your quite obviously very smart/intellectual. I really doubt you'll get what you're looking for out of books.
For example, when I was in uni, we sometimes had the opportunity to do a written project, or present it to the class. I always chose to present, because I needed the practice. It was dreadful, I was nervous...and I doubt it was very interesting...not the few first ones anyway.
If you are currently employed, and have a good relationship with your supervisor, I suggest speaking to him/her to see if it's something you can start integrating slowly in your job.
Best of luck!
PIf you have overcome the fear of public speaking, what advice can you give?
Excellent advice. Practise. Sources:http://thepublicspeaking-tips.blogspot.com/2009/03/overcoming-fear-of-public-speaking.html#links
