What do you advice a civilian to do if he is being detained for an unreasonable amount of time?

I keep hearing about this law that says a police officer can detain you only for a reasonable amount of time. But in reality has anyone ever heard of someone that actually did leave without permission after being detain for ';an unreasonable amount of time';?

So, for example, during a routine traffic stop. Lets say that for some reason time goes by and a whole hour passes. And the person decides to leave because he feels it is safe to assume an unreasonable amount of time has passed.

I think that of course that person would get arrested for ....... evading arrest I guess.

Or would that person be able to ask for permission to leave because too much time has passed already and then leave anyways? Even if instructed not to leave. (Assuming he has been told that he is not under arrest but is being detained.)What do you advice a civilian to do if he is being detained for an unreasonable amount of time?
Once probable cause is estabished, there isn't a time limit on traffic stops. If it takes 60 to 90 minutes for a drug dog to come to search the car, you will be there 90 minutes to 2 hours for the search. If you are stubborn and don't allow a search and there is probable cause, you can go to jail for 36 to 48 hours, we can get a search warrant and then search your car.

In most situations, a traffic stop only lasts from 5 to 10 minutes. Don't give an officer any more reason to hold you. Best advice, be very, very patient. What do you advice a civilian to do if he is being detained for an unreasonable amount of time?
I agree be patient, calm, and dont lie to the officer, it will only get you in MORE trouble. Even if you are carrying an illicit substance in your car if your nice, polite, and honest with the officer in some cases you wont get arrested and will just be issued a summons to appear in court.

I was placed in handcuffs for 40 minutes while a cop searched my car because he suspected me of driving while intoxicated. After 2 breath test and the drug dog searching my car i walked away. If i had made a big deal about it he could have nailed me for something (for instance my tint is way to dark and my exhaust is too loud) Honesty, and being patient go a long way bud
The Nazi cop can do whatever he wants to. He will hold you for as long as it takes

Don't talk back you may get your head smashed in.
'A reasonable amount of time' is FAR longer than an hour.

Police can hold you for 48 hours without charging you. If you were to decide to 'leave' police custody, it would indeed be considered felony evasion, or even escape.
