Does anyone have some seasoned advice for a beginning runner?

I have never been a great runner since I am 6'3'; and about 250. But, I can't always make it to the gym so going running for about 30 minutes is about all I have. Any advice to get motivated and improve?Does anyone have some seasoned advice for a beginning runner?
On Sunday write out your ';Running Plan'; for the week. When and where, and for how long. Vary your routes to include some hills (yes), parks, tracks etc. Write these ';appointments'; in your diary so you are not tempted to miss them. Don't know your age but at least one rest day from running is required per week (do another activity, swim, bike, walk). Monitor your energy and enthusiasm level for two weeks then if all is good gradually increase length and/or speed of your runs over 3 months or so. Don't be afraid of having an easier week if you feel jaded. Progress slowly don't go mad, find a friend occasionally, join a running group.Does anyone have some seasoned advice for a beginning runner?
Definetly listen to music when you run, as long as you can still hear what's going on around you (especially if you're running in the city, it's easy to get distracted and then you're...roadkill)

If you regularly go to a gym, you can talk to some of the trainers there and ask for their advice on a program.
I recommend doing cross country. i mean, yeah, its hard at first. but once u start doing it, it gets a ton easier and is very rewarding when you finish. Good luck!
